Moravian Slovakia in winter

Fairs with traditional crafts, carol singing, traditional pig slaughtering – that’s winter in the villages of Moravian Slovakia. The beautiful countryside, meanwhile, encourages winter walks and active relaxation.

Winter in Moravian Slovakia is superb. The weeks leading up to Christmas are filled with the sound of carols and the aroma of mulled wine and mead at markets and fairs, where local producers offer the best of their work.

The peaks of Chřiby and the White Carpathians under the cover of snow entice you out for a winter walk, sledging and cross-country or downhill skiing.

Did you know?

Many folk customs in Moravian Slovakia are linked to winter. Saint Lucy, Saint Stephen, Three Kings, or Fašank (carnival). All these holidays are still celebrated today with traditional processions, entertainment and cimbalom performances. The best known is Fašank in Strání.
