Moravian Slovakia is a living region, and just as our veins pulsate with blood, grapevines pulsate throughout Moravian Slovakia. Endless hectares of vineyards, which together form what makes Moravian Slovakia what it is: the region of good wine and good people.
Wine-growing has many years of tradition in Moravian Slovakia, and new varieties have emerged here, such as Moravian Muscat from Polešovice, or Cabernet Moravia and Fratava, from Moravská Nová Ves. Demanding work in the vineyards can be appreciated at traditional events such as the “closing the vineyard”, tastings, wine festivals and the blessing of St. Martin’s wine. Every spring and autumn, locals and tourists from all over the country head to Uherské Hradiště, from where they continue by bike, on foot or on a scooter as part of the “Cycling through the Uherské Hradiště vineyards” event – the symbolic unlocking and locking of the cycle paths. In October, people also travel from neighbouring countries to Hodonín or Mutěnice for the burčák (young wine) walks. And when it’s not the season of young wines, we have the perfect opportunity to reminisce about past vintages. There’s nothing quite like meeting up with friends for this over a glass in a cosy wine cellar or wine bar. Long winter evenings then become some of the very best.
Our tip!
Moravian Wine Trails
Discover an extensive network of cycling routes, named after the original wine regions. The routes have yellow signs with the “archway” logo – the entrance to a wine cellar. There is a total of twelve of them in Moravian Slovakia, between 30 and 130 km long. The routes are circular. However, you can select a specific section according to its level of difficulty or the attractions you can visit along the route.
