Folklore and Traditional Moravian Slovakia

You would be hard pressed to find a place where folklore and tradition are as important as they are in Moravian Slovakia. Past generations have been responsible for preserving them, while current generations are reviving them.

Feasts are an integral part of folklore life in Moravian Slovakia, with villages coming to life from spring to autumn with singing and dancing, and people wearing carefully ironed traditional costumes with pride during the celebratory processions. Fans of folklore also come to Moravian Slovakia for its numerous folklore festivals and celebrations. One rarity is undoubtedly the men’s Verbuňk folk dance, which is on the UNESCO World Intangible Heritage List, as are the Ride of the Kings and the traditional blue-dyeing technique.

The open-air museums in Strážnice or Rochus in Uherské Hradiště illustrate traditional life, while the regional museums in Uherský Brod, Hodonín, Kyjov and the Museum of Moravian Slovakia are just as important.

Many original buildings have been preserved in Moravian Slovakia. Typical white houses with a blue stripe around the base, tidy rooms and various historical objects give us the opportunity to get acquainted with a time when life flowed mainly according to the seasons, in harmony with nature. Each one of these homes tells its own story. At the beginning of June there is always a Historic Houses Weekend, when you can visit these buildings.
